Overview
If you’re researching red light therapy panels such as Platinum Therapy Lights’ Biomax 600 or the Mito Red Light MitoAdapt Max, look closely at the LightpathLED Diesel Combo XL Shortie. This Diesel Combo offers capabilities that set it apart from many competitors.
In this LightpathLED Diesel Combo XL Shortie review, you’ll learn how this red light therapy panel enables you to customize treatment with ten precise pulsing presets and the ability to manually adjust between 1-9,999 pulses per second.
A key advantage of the Diesel Combo XL is its combination of 450nm blue, 670nm red, and 810nm near-infrared wavelengths. This diverse spectrum targets both skin and cellular benefits. It provides focused irradiance, delivering 76mw/cm2 of near-infrared and deep red light at 12 inches from its 325 LED bulbs and 30-degree lenses. This exceeds the irradiance of some other panels. The EMF-free design at 6 inches and accessories like goggles and mounts add to its versatility. In this review, you’ll learn more about the Diesel Combo XL Shortie’s specialized capabilities, from its advanced pulsing to its focused irradiance and range of wavelengths.
LightpathLED is one of my absolute favorite vendors. When you buy from Lightpath, you get the personal help of red light therapy expert Scott Kennedy. Consider this panel’s unique features as you research and compare red light therapy options, including Platinum Therapy Lights’ products. The Diesel Combo XL warrants a close look.

Pulsing (A Biohacker’s Dream Machine)
One of the top benefits of the Diesel Combo XL Shortie red light therapy panel is its wide range of pulsation options. With 10,000 pulsation options available, ranging from 0 to 9,999 Hz, users can customize their therapy sessions according to their specific needs and preferences. Biohackers can play with 10,000 pulsation options while varying blue light, red/infrared, or both. Scott got the idea to allow 10,000 pulsation frequencies from the work of French physician Dr. Paul Nogier, who pioneered the study of pulsed light in biology. Nogier’s findings suggest that illness occurs when cells, molecules, or matter particles deviate from their usual resonance or vibratory pattern.
Exposing damaged tissue to the expected resonance frequencies associated with that particular tissue can often cause healing, sometimes remarkably quickly. He recommended these pulsations that you can use with your LightpathLED Diesel:
- 73 Hz for help with chronic issues, nonunion fractures, and bone health
- 147 Hz for scar tissue issues and subacute conditions.
- 147 Hz is the anti-inflammatory pulse frequency
- 294 Hz to help heal wounds and eye issues.
- 587 Hz for nerves, circulation, and lymph assistance. It helps with digestion and liver and pancreatic problems.
- 1174 Hz helps with large muscles as well as tendons and ligaments.
- 2349 Hz helps break healing plateaus with chronic conditions.
- 4698 Hz is for pain control

My Take
The Diesel Combo is excellent for biohacking, aging skin, acne, and exercise recovery. It is also good for helping with exercise soreness (delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS) and pain relief. Biohackers get 10,000 pulsing options and 7 preset Nogier frequencies to test new routines.
For acne and eczema symptom reduction, you have a separate blue and red/infrared control to emulate the acne photobiomodulation (red light therapy) best studies that cleared acne up to 80% in 4 weeks. The red and infrared wavelengths induce collagen and elastin production, which plump up and tighten the skin. They also reduce inflammation and redness.
Exercise recovery responds to the same settings as aging skin, saving a lot of time when doing both therapies! Blue, red, and infrared light benefit seasonal affective disorder (SAD). However, this is not a SAD light, which depends on wavelengths not found in the Diesel Shortie. You should still get some benefit, as blue reduces melatonin. Use it for SAD only in the mornings to avoid insomnia responses.
Pain relief action with red and infrared is strong and does work. However, red light therapy for pain relief works best when the device is designed to press on the skin. This causes maximum photon absorption. Therefore, you get slightly less activity with a panel than, for instance, with a handheld pain relief device.
Before you purchase the Diesel Combo, consider how you will use the panel daily. Will you sit, stand, or lie down? You want to match the stand to your most comfortable therapy position. The Diesel Combo stands out compared to other panels for its stellar support from LightpathLED and Scott Kennedy, its excellent wavelength and pulsation specifications that align with the current photobiomodulation science, and the five-year warranty of a device that is as strong as iron.
