I don’t know if this is hard to believe but I haven’t been on an airplane since before 9/11. I don’t plan on getting on one any time soon.
We plan to spend more time down south, and one option for going back and forth to New Hampshire is to take the train.
EV Rider Transport M mobility scooter is ideal for train, airplane, cruise and car travellers.
If you don’t need automatic folding, then the Transport M will give you the same experience as the EV Rider Transport AF but for less money.
The Transport M is the perfect little go cart for adults, and I will get one of these to use on the train.
It’s lightweight and small so it goes everywhere. And it’s the coolest design of any mobility scooter I’ve reviewed so far.
Learn the pros and cons of EV Rider’s foldable mobility scooter in this EV Rider Transport M review.
Why I like the Transport M:
- Its narrow frame 16.5 in. sails through interior, train and cruise ship doorways
- Its tight 31 in. turning radius is better than many 3-wheel models
- It weighs only 42 lb. for easy lifting into the car trunk
- The 14 in. seat-to-deck height is comfortable for shorter people
- Folds into wheeled luggage
- The folded size is easy to store at 28.7 x 16.5 x 16.5 inches.
- 15 mile range on a single charge!
- Automatic safety brakes
- 4-wheel stability
- Use either hand to drive
- Train, airplane, car and cruise ship portable
EV Rider Transport M Review
The EV Rider Transport M mobility scooter is a little race car for the mobility impaired.
Have you looked at the design of this little beauty? It’s so stinkin’ cute!
It weighs 42 lb., including the battery, and measures 28.7 x 16.5 x 16.5 in. when folded.
It has safety features like lights and an automatic braking system.
Its four-wheel design provides good stability.
However, it lacks several safety features that some users might expect or prefer, such as a horn, turn signals, mirrors, and a seat belt.
EV Rider Transport M Pros and Cons
- The heaviest piece (42 lb.) is at the lower end compared to most mobility scooters
- Compact size fits in small spaces
- Airline, cruise and car friendly
- 4-wheel design for Improved stability
- Solid tires don’t get flats
- Ambidextrous throttle suits left or right-handed users
- Lights included for improved visibility and safety
- Automatic magnetic braking is safe on inclines even if power fails
- Lasts 13 miles on a single charge
- Tight 31 in. turning radius
- The lithium-ion battery is lighter weight and has a longer lifespan
- Low ground clearance (1.4″) limits outdoor capabilities
- No armrests or suspension coils
Transport M Portability
- Airline, car trunk, and cruise ship portable
- Total Weight: 42 lb
- Heaviest Piece: 42 lb
- Length x Width x Height: 33.8 x 16.5 x 16.5 in
- Folded Length x Folded Width x Folded Height: 28.7 x 16.5 x 16.5 in.
- “Luggage” Folds with wheels and handle: Yes
Always check with the transportation provider about their storage requirements.
The Transport M will fit in most storage areas:
- Car trunk
- Car back seat
- It should fit (16.5 in. width) through a cruise stateroom and handicap door
- It will not fit in an airline overhead bin.
- The airlines will check the Transport M mobility scooter into cargo.
- The scooter’s portability makes it suitable for trains and buses.
The Transport M folds into a trolley luggage configuration for you to pull it on wheels through the airport and train station.
Transport M Indoors
The Transport M is a good indoor scooter. Its 16.5-inch width easily fits through narrow and standard doorways.
- Length x Width x Height: 33.8 x 16.5 x 16.5 in
- Number of Wheels: 4
- Turning Radius: 31 in.
The Transport M’s compact size suits even narrow indoor scenarios. It handles tight spaces well with a 31 in. trning radius.
It performs well in grocery stores, malls, and all but the smallest of shops (some shops are too narrow for any scooter, but if one is going to fit, it’ll be this Transport M).
Transport M Outdoors
The Transport M is a four-wheel scooter that offers good stability for outdoor use. This stability is beneficial on uneven surfaces and when making turns.
- Number of Wheels: 4
- Tire type: Solid
- Tire Size: Front 7″, Rear 8″
- Ground Clearance: 1.4 in.
- Incline rating: 9 degrees
- Max speed: 3.8 mph
- Travel range: 10.0 miles
The solid tires mean you won’t have to worry about flats, which is convenient for maintenance. However, the ride might be rougher than air-filled tires, especially on uneven surfaces.
With only 1.4 inches of ground clearance, the Transport M might struggle with obstacles like large rocks, roots, or tall grass, which limits its off-road capabilities.
The Transport M’s maximum speed is 3.8 mph, which is an industry standard. Sooters of this type typically max out around four mph. This is adequate for most pedestrian areas but may feel slow in more open spaces.
The 10-mile travel range is decent for short to medium trips. It should be sufficient for quick rides or trips to the store. However, you might need to plan a recharge for a full day at a theme park or extended use on inclines and rough surfaces.
The surprisingly high 9-degree incline rating means that this little guy can conquer some big hills.
Based on these specifications, the EV Rider Transport M should perform well on:
- Sidewalks
- Smooth paved paths
- Hills
- Indoor surfaces
- Short, dry grass
It may struggle with:
- Gravel paths
- Wet or long grass
- Wooden trails, especially rough ones
- Areas with obstacles or uneven terrain
The Transport M is best suited for urban and suburban environments with mostly smooth surfaces.
Its low ground clearance and solid tires limit its off-road capabilities.
It should serve most users well for daily use on typical surfaces, but those needing to traverse more challenging outdoor environments might want to consider a more rugged model.
Transport M Comfort
The Transport M offers some comfort features but also has some limitations. It’s a basic model with little cushioning and no armrests. The tiller is angle adjustable. Suspension only matters if traveling across gaps or obstacles.
The tiller is angle-adjustable to give your arms a rest or give your legs some more room.
- Seat cushion: Slight
- Seat height adjustable: No
- Armrests: No
- Armrests flip up: N/A
- Armrests width adjustable: N/A
- Suspension Seat: None
- Suspension Wheels: None
- Tire Type: Solid
- Tiller angle adjustable, height adjustable: Yes, No
- Throttle ambidextrous?: Yes
- Number of wheels: 4
- Seat slider: No
Transport M Safety
The Transport M has lights and automatic braking but lacks other safety features such as turn signals and mirrors.
- Lights: Yes
- Signals: No
- Horn: No
- Alarm: No
- Braking: Automatic Magnetic
- Mirrors: No
- Number of wheels: 4
- Seat belt: Optional
Transport M Convenience
The Transport M is a basic folding mobility scooter that sacrifices luxuries to keep the total weight down.
- Cup Holder: None
- Phone Holder: None
- Bluetooth Speaker: No
- USB Port: No
- Seat rotation: No
- Basket: No
- Bag: No
- Under Seat: No
- Hitch receiver: No
Final Thoughts
In this EV Rider Transport M mobility scooter review, you learned that I don’t like to fly, but I will take the Transport M on the train!
Serously, though, this handy mobility scooter folds down to a lightweight package you can take on any transportation. It easily fits through interior doors and cruise ship stateroom doorways.
I see the appeal of the automatic folding model, but if you want to save some money then the Transport M is the way to go.
